EU won't send congratulations note to Ahmadinejad

BRUSSELS - The European Union will not send a traditional note of congratulations to Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on being sworn in to a second presidential term., AP reported.  EU spokesman Amadeu Altafaj Tardio says the EU "has not sent a congratulatory message and does not intend to do so." He gave no further comment Thursday.

"We appreciate and we admire the continuing resistance and ongoing efforts by the reformers to make the changes that the Iranian people deserve," Clinton told reporters in Kenya, where she kicked off a seven-nation Africa tour, according to a report by AFP.

Ahmadinejad works on new cabinet as crisis persists

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad began work on Thursday to set up his new government, facing unrelenting protests over his re-election and divisions even within his own hardline support base, AFP reported from Tehran.  Ahmadinejad, whose standing at home has also been weakened by a political crisis that put him at odds with supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has two weeks to submit his cabinet list to parliament, which will then hold a vote of confidence.
