Dr. Jehangir Kazerouni on the Works of Farah Seyed Abolghassem:
We all know of artists who live in the passageways. Theirs is not a mundane living but a life within the mind: the passage between childhood and adulthood, thought and feeling, consciousness and the unconscious...
It is almost as if they are sitting before a mirror and looking beyond it at the very point where the real world meets fantasy... they are dazed by that which lies beyond what is and is not.
I am and I am not. If I exist on this side, in front of the mirror, then I will also exist on the other side of the mirror or among the flat surfaces of the mirror: a place where childhood is formed.
Farah Seyed Abolghassem is the painter of such fragile passageways: a world of childhood and fantasy. A space which though it no longer exists yet does it remain forever before us and thus does it invade even our dreams.
In the process of her works Farah's creativity has taken her to such a realm. It is a place where the mundane objects that fill the wastes of our lives look within and take on another form. This is when the plastics that invade contemporary life turn into birds that not only exist but are harbingers of an unknown realm. Hence, the bird is no longer simply a bird.
Farah is the messenger from that realm that lives with each of us but which needs to be shaken back into life in order to awaken and change. Accordingly, Farah Seyed Abolghassem hits us with her blows: blows that awaken us to that hidden world within.
