Press Release by Alliance of Iranian Americans
Los Angeles, November 30th - On November 29, 2009, Cyrus Hadavi and Sam Sotoodeh, Directors of Alliance of Iranian Americans and Babak Sotoodeh, its President, met with the Clippers organization and Clippers' play-by-play announcer, Ralph Lawler and color analyst, Michael Smith to discuss their recent comments made about Grizzlies' Center, Hamed Haddadi, that led to their one game suspension.
Sincere discussion were held between the representatives of Alliance of Iranian Americans and Messrs. Lawler and Smith during which it became clear that the incident was not intentional and Messrs. Lawler and Smith were not intending to disrespect the Iranian Americans. At the end of the meeting, the representatives of Alliance of Iranian Americans came away satisfied that the incident was an aberration and not a true reflection of the Clippers organization or Messrs. Lawler and Smith.
Subsequent to their meeting with the representatives of Alliance of Iranian Americans, Messrs. Lawler and Smith met with Mr. Haddadi and expressed their regret for the incident. This brought to closure the matter for all parties and demonstrated their true and sincere respect for the game and all the athletes contributing to the game, irrespective of their place of birth.
The Alliance of Iranian Americans is grateful to the Clippers organization for their full and transparent cooperation in this matter.
