The Open Center is very pleased to welcome back
Shahram Shiva, the renowned Rumi translator and performer, accompanied by a trio
of accomplished musicians, for another luminous event. Shiva, who is known for
his passionate recitations and performances of Rumi, will perform his own
English renditions as well as Rumi's Persian verses. This special event will be
featuring flutist and multi-instrumentalist John Ragusa in original and
improvisational accompaniment with Rob Silvan on piano. This union of spoken
verse and live music melds magic with love. Following tonight's concert, Shiva
will guide the group into an ecstatic whirling experience through his unique and
proven four-step method.
Shahram Shiva is an author and longtime award-winning translator and performer
of Rumi's poetry. His works include: Rumi, Thief of Sleep; Rending the Veil; A
Garden Beyond Paradise; and a new CD entitled "Rumi: Lovedrunk." In addition,
Shiva is an innovative workshop leader in Sufism, including its famous
"whirling" practice.

Shahram Shiva
is a performance poet, award-winning translator and scholar of Rumi and author
of several books. He is known for his rich and entrancing concerts of Rumi, the
13th Century Persian mystic poet. He was born to a Persian Jewish family in Iran
and migrated to the US at the age of 16. Shiva is the only major presenter in
the West who performs Rumi's poetry in his own English renditions as well as the
original Persian verses. His bilingual English-Persian concerts are Rumi events
where the great mystical poet is celebrated with Shiva's unique and passionate
recitations of the timeless poetry performed with musical groups of various
