Shab-e She'r (Poetry Night) will celebrate Iranian Women Writers on December 9
from 6-7:30pm. This special evening will feature Farnoosh Fathi and Soraya
Shalforoosh!
Farnoosh Fathi recently received a Fulbright Fellowship to travel to Brazil and
write poems. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Denver Quarterly, Fence
and Boston Review. Her translations of modern Persian poetry have been published
in Circumference.
Soraya Shalforoosh's poems and reviews have appeared in journals such as the
Marlboro Review, Women's Studies Quarterly, Bomb, Barrow Street, Tribes.org,
etc. Soraya Shalforoosh was featured as an Emerging Poet in the Academy of
American Poet's, emerging poet series. She received her MFA in Creative Writing
from the New School.
An open mic will follow the reading, inviting everyone to read either his or her
own poetry or works by other poets, in Persian or English, bearing some
connection to Iran or Iranian/Persian culture.
