Purpose of "Adopt a Library" Project
Given PAAIA's mission of image building, community building and mobilizing the
Iranian American community to take action toward its common interests, including
increasing awareness of our heritage and culture, it is important that the vast
and rich history and heritage of Iran be made readily available to all
Americans. What better way to do this than through a fun and easy to read and
understand children's book!
As you donate this book, please email us at info@paaia.org and tell us where you
placed the book and any stories, so we can recognize you and report back on the
progress of this important and fun project.
We hope that you will participate in this exciting project, and help us improve
the image of Iranians in the US with this small but important and effective
step. We also hope and expect that this will be the first of many "Adopt a
Library" projects featuring other valuable books about our Persian culture,
history and heritage.
About the Book
Published in 2008 by Anahita Productions, the award winning book Ancient Iran is
authored by Massoume Price and documents the ancient civilizations of the
Iranian plateau in a pictorial format for children ages eight and up. Similar to
the typical "Eyewitness" books on "Ancient Rome" and "Ancient Greece", the book
provides a comprehensive and easy to read look at life in ancient Iran. It
features unique items such as a 5000-year old textile fragment and an artificial
eyeball from the Burnt City and stunning objects from the ancient ruins of Susa
in southern Iran. Follow life at the magnificent palaces of the Persian nobles
at Persepolis, labeled by the Greek historians as the wealthiest city under the
sun. Find out how the ancient Iranians lived, what they ate, how they were
entertained and what they believed in. Trace the origin of Iranian languages and
the development of Iranian scripts over the centuries. Discover the life of
women and children and view fantastic jewelry the wealthy nobles, both male and
female, wore for adornment. Follow the path of Alexander and the defeat of his
heirs, the Seleucids, by the master archers the Parthians who ruled Iran for
almost 500 years and stopped Roman advances into the Near East. Learn about the
splendor of the Sasanian court and its contributions to the arts, textiles and
music of the Near East for centuries, even after its demise in the 7th century.
