Iranian state television says prosecutors are
charging three people directly involved in repeated beatings that led to the
deaths (of Mohsen Ruhal Amini, Amir Javadifar, and Mohammed Kamrani). An
investigation has so far resulted in criminal charges against at least 12 people
involved in the violence at Tehran's Kahrizak prison.

The report said investigators found
to be false earlier accounts indicating that meningitis killed the three
prisoners.
Opposition groups say prisoners were abused, tortured and killed at Kahrizak,
which housed many of those detained during protests against President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad's disputed re-election in June.

The prison has since been closed on the order of
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who said the facility was not up
to required standards.
