March in Washington DC to Demand an End to Violence Against Iranian People
|
|
The
Iranian struggle for democracy has taken unprecedented turns since June 12th
presidential election. Iranians have shown resilience and have pressed on their
democratic demands on the face of continuous violence and escalating repression.
On December 27th, 09 the Iranian government, led by Ayatollah Khamenei, proved
once again that it had no intention to listen to the democratic demands of the
Iranian people. The Islamic Republic of Iran has started a new round of violence
against opposition. Tens of people were killed in the protests of December 27th
throughout the country and thousands were detained in its immediate aftermath.
On January 3rd, 2009, we will gather to show our solidarity with the movement
for democracy in Iran. We will address the international community and the U.S.
government and demand that they use all diplomatic leverages on Islamic Republic
of Iran to end the violence on the streets and in prisons.
Speakers: to be confirmed.
Date: Sunday, January 3rd, 2009
Time: 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: United Nations Information Office (18th and K Street) to the
White House (Lafayette Park), Washington, D.C.
