Iran's Supreme Leader: "Zionist leaders must be tried for war crimes"

TEHRAN, Feb. 1 (Mehr News Agency) -- Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Meshaal met with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday and briefed him about the victory of the resistance movement against the Zionist regime during the 22-day war on the Gaza Strip and the war's aftermath.

The Leader again congratulated the resistance movement on its victory and said, "The people of Gaza and the Islamic resistance made us all proud, and through their patience and resistance they successfully passed this great and extremely difficult test."

Ayatollah Khamenei insisted that the great victory against the Zionist regime's army was a result of "faith and jihad" and expressed hope that God would make the Gaza victory a prelude for more victories in the future.

He went on to say that the war against Gaza has still not ended and the psychological and propaganda warfare against Palestinians is still continuing.

The Islamic resistance should exercise vigilance so that it is "totally prepared" for every eventuality, including the resumption of war, the Leader advised.

He also said the enemy is scrambling to eke out a political victory to compensate for its military failure.

"The same spirit of resistance, the same preparedness, and the same efforts should be made on the political scene."

The Leader called for the immediate reconstruction of Gaza and said Iran is ready to help.

He also said a serious propaganda war has been launched by Israel and its allies to "distort reality" and make it appear that Hamas and the resistance movement are responsible for the "suffering of the people of Gaza."

Unfortunately, certain Arab countries are also propagating what Israel and its allies say, the Leader lamented.

Ayatollah Khamenei also said the Zionist regime's leaders must be brought to book for "committing war crimes" against the people of Gaza. "This issue should be pursued very seriously."

During the meeting, Khaled Meshaal thanked the Iranian nation and Ayatollah Khamenei, saying, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has provided the people of Gaza the most support."

Iran played a major role in the Gazan people's victory, he added.

During the most difficult times of the war, the people of the Gaza Strip trusted God and resisted, and now God has granted them this victory, he stated.

He expressed hope that the victory in the Gaza Strip will be the beginning of the total liberation of all of Palestine.

The "political war" and the "war to break the Gaza blockade" have begun and despite the psychological warfare, the Palestinian government and the Islamic resistance have not accepted any of the Zionist regime's conditions, including the 2005 agreement, Meshaal pointed out.

The Palestinian government has not agreed to a permanent ceasefire and never will, he added.

He noted that the Palestinian government views the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip as a priority, but is aware that the United States and the Zionist regime intend to impede the efforts to rebuild the region in order to discourage people from resisting.

However, the Palestinians will start reconstructing Gaza and will not allow the enemy's efforts to succeed, he said.
