Photos: Iranians Climb Sahand to Mark the Revolution's Anniversary

A big group of Iranians climbed to the top of Sahand mountain to mark the 30th anniversary of Iran's revolution.

Sahand is a massive, heavily eroded stratovolcano in northwestern Iran. At 3,707 m (12,162 ft), it is the highest mountain in the Iranian province of East Azarbaijan. It is one of the highest mountains in Iranian Azerbaijan, in addition to being an important dormant volcano in the country.

East Azerbaijan is one of the 30 provinces of Iran. It is in the northwest of the country, bordering Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the provinces of Ardabil, West Azarbaijan, and Zanjan. Its capital is Tabriz. The province covers an area of approximately 47,830 kmē, it has a population of around four million people.
