Press TV - Iranians have produced erythropoietin beta, interferon beta 1, interferon gamma and fingolimod to treat multiple sclerosis and cancer.
"Iranian produced drugs are now exported to 14 countries; this shows the high quality and the efficacy of these medications," said the Minister of Health and Medical Education, Kamran Baqeri Lankarani.
He added that these drugs have made the country independent of importing such medications.
Chemotherapy destroys red blood cells levels in cancer sufferers; Erythropoietin beta increases the production of red blood cells and therefore lowers the mortality rate in cancer patients. This drug is also effective in treating the anemia caused by dialysis in chronic renal failure patients.
Interferon beta 1, interferon gamma, and fingolimod are effective in MS patients as they improve the immune system.
Interferon beta 1a also known as resigene is the Iranian version of Rebif, an effective drug in treating MS attacks. Interferon beta 1b improves the health condition of MS sufferers by boosting the immune system and fighting viruses.
Fingolimod can prevent disabling MS attacks. A single dose of the drug lowers the risk of subsequent attacks by 50 percent.
