21-28 March 2009: "International Week of Iranian Culture"

Encyclopędia Iranica

Let us join together and celebrate the "International Week of Iranian Culture". This is a joyous opportunity to embark on a systematic program to educate the general public -- including many Iranians -- on Iranian culture, and promote our heritage.  For this purpose, we are fortunate to have the most expansive and authentic resource for the Iranian heritage in any language other than Persian at our service in the Encyclopędia Iranica.  the sole cause that has the capability of bringing together the Iranians of all persuasions.

As you know, the 35th anniversary of
Encyclopędia Iranica  was proudly celebrated in the first week of May 2008, in more than 36 cities, universities, museums and other locations around the world.

The primary focus of "The International Iranica Week" and the activities associated with it, were to share with audiences worldwide the manifold academic accomplishments of Encyclopaedia Iranica and its commitment to produce reliable and scholarly accounts of our cultural heritage, as recognized by global academic communities.

The brilliant success of "The International Iranica Week" in 2008 led to designation of the first week of the Persian New Year (1-8 Farvardin, 21-28 March in 2009) as "International Week of Iranian Culture," to which the
Encyclopędia Iranica is dedicated.  It is only fitting that a work of reference dealing with all aspects of Iranian culture and history should be celebrated at a time when all Iranians mark the arrival of the Persian New Year.

Please join us in the celebration of the "International Week of Iranian Culture" by arranging a session at a library, university, museum, or any other location worthy of the occasion.  If more convenient, the program may be included as part of your Nowruz celebrations.  Ideally, the program should include presentation(s) of any aspect of the Iranian culture.

Encyclopędia Iranica  will gladly discuss your projects and plans, and is prepared to provide assistance whenever needed.  You may contact Mrs. Houra Yavari (hy2101@columbia.edu), or Behrad Nakhai (bn59@columbia.edu) for further information.
