TEHRAN, Feb. 18 (Mehr News Agency) - There has been a 13% increase in women's management role in the Education Ministry over the past year, head of the ministry's department for women affairs said here on Tuesday.
Eight women are now working as managers and advisors for the Education Ministry, Mehri Suizi said, adding that last year only one woman held a top managerial post in the ministry.
Referring to the recent figures issued by the state Literacy Movement Organization (LMO), Suizi said that there has been a significant increase in female literacy rate over the past 30 years.
Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, 88% of females have received education, she explained. However, she added, women illiteracy rate is still higher than men.
"Female illiteracy rate has decreased from 75% to 10% over the past 30 years," she added.
Females now account for 69% of the country's university students, Suizi said, describing the phenomenon as "a cultural renaissance".
