The Equestrian Embrace: Winner of Iran's Abilympic award, Arash Rezghibarez

Source: gallerymamak.com, Tehran

Arash Rezghibarez was born in 1970 in Tehran. He started to paint professionally in 1988 by which time he had already studied with two of Iran's best teachers: Haedeh Zarrinbal and Mohammad Jafari.  In 1991 Rezghibarez was in an accident which damaged his spinal cord and paralyzed him from the shoulder downward. His injury limited his movements and he was forced to devise equipment that would allow him to continue to draw and paint.

The equipment was designed by Rezghibarez and a friend of his and was then made by his wife.  No other painter has yet used this equipment to paint.  In 1990 Rezghibarez started teaching art and design.  From 1993 till date he has participated in 18 solo exhibits and 30 group exhibits.  In 2003 he won the first prize in the Iran Abilympic competition and was therefore sent to India to participate in the New Delhi competitions where he represented Iran.

Rezghibarez's passion in life is painting; he says that without painting his life would be meaningless.  He has had various periods in his work in which he deals with different issues in order to portray his emotions. As the issues change for him his techniques change to express those emotions better.  Arash Rezghibarez believes that it is the role of the artist to have the courage to experiment new horizons if he is to maintain the necessary freshness in his works require. It is precisely this freshness that Rezghibarez lays out for his viewers as he moves from the tenderness of his flowers to his winding roads lined with dry trees to the passionate embraces of his horses. Arash Rezghibarez is presently living and working in Tehran.
