Dozens of injuries were reported after the protest's organizers clashed with government forces during the ceremony at Tehran's Amir Kabir University.

Students had complained that the event effectively handed control of the university over to hard-liners.

Mehdi Arabshahi, the leader of Iran's largest student group, told Radio Farda that three members of the university's Islamic Society were arrested at their homes the day after the protest, while a number of students arrested at the burial ceremony had already been released.

Students held several peaceful demonstrations to protest the ceremony last week.
