Iran's 27th Fajr International Film
Festival is set to pay tribute to celebrated cinematographers Mike Leigh and
Francis Ford Coppola.
The festival, to be held from Feb. 1 to 11, 2009, will honor the British
filmmaker Leigh by screening a number of his films in a section called Mike
Leigh, Political and Social Critic; Someone like Ken Loach.
The event's Francis Ford Coppola, A Memory: The Most Famous Cinematographer
of the 70s will present a selection of films by the Academy-Award winning
American director and screenwriter.
Director, screenwriter, and playwright, Mike Leigh is known for his social
realism-orientated films that focus on the banal conflicts of everyday life.
Life is Sweet (1990), Topsy Turvy (1999) and All or Nothing
(2002) are among his best-known works. His Naked (1993) won him the Best
Director award of Cannes and his 1996 Secrets & Lies was nominated for
the Oscars.
The five-time Academy Award-winning director, producer and screenwriter, Francis
Ford Coppola is better known for his highly praised Godfather,
Conversation, and Apocalypse Now.
