Six more Iranian sites to receive UNESCO world heritage certificates

UNESCO plans to award six more Iranian monuments world heritage certificates during 2009. The six monuments to receive certificates are as follows: Chogha Zanbil Ziggurat, Naqsh-e Jahan Square, Takht-e Soleiman, Pasargadae, Soltanieh Dome, and the collection of historic churches of St. Thaddeus, St. Stephanus, and Dzordzor.

The certificates will be presented to Iran's monuments placed on registered on the World Heritage List in order to appreciate the country's efforts in preservation, restoration, and education on the monuments, program specialist of UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office Junko Taniguchi told the Persian service of CHN on Sunday. 

Bisotun, the city of Bam and its cultural landscape, and Persepolis have previously received certificates during the past year.

Taniguchi described the Persepolis case as a good example of preservation, restoration, and educational activities carried out by Iran, and said that the World Heritage certificate for Persepolis has been presented to the Parsa-Pasargadae Research Foundation.
