Press TV - The Economic Cooperation Organization will establish an organization for trade promotion among member states with Iran at its helm.
The Iranian capital of Tehran hosted the trade promotion officials from ECO member states from January 18 to 19. The group gathered for the purpose of forming the ECO Trade Promotion Organization (TPO).
The 2-day meeting ended with the election of Iran as the head of TPO for the next three years.
Regular meetings with member states will be scheduled by Iran to facilitate trade and investment cooperation within the regional organization. Tehran will also coordinate and participate in setting meeting agendas.
Joint strategies that can be adopted for the promotion of intraregional trade and trade with non-member states were also discussed during the meeting.
Networking exporters with importers as well as market research were among the topics that will be high on the agenda of the new agency.
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) -- originally founded by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey -- entered a new stage of development when it was joined by the central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as Azerbaijan and Afghanistan.
