The 2009 Fajr Theater Festival is scheduled for Jan. 21 to 30.

Many theater groups in Iran and 16 groups from around the globe will stage their plays during the annual festival, held at Tehran's City Theater Complex and other theaters in the Iranian capital.

Iran's Atila Pesyani and UK's Aleksandar Sasha Dundjerovic will stage their joint production Cherry Orchard based on a play of the same name by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov.

The event will also host the Theater in Islamic Countries conference, which will be attended by international theater experts from Sudan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Turkey and the US.
