Germany is to hold a Shahnameh Congress in a bid to honor the 1000th anniversary of the creation of the Persian literary masterpiece by Abolqasem Ferdowsi.

The congress, which will be held in September 2009 in Berlin House of World Cultures aims to introduce the Persian culture and civilization to young Iranians living abroad, director of Ferdowsi Foundation, Mohammad Hossein Tousivand told ISNA.
Researchers on Shahnameh, including Jalal Khaleqi Motlaq and Mir Jalaleddin Kazzazi will deliver lectures on Ferdowsi's magnum opus, comparing it with works by the Greek Homer and a number of German writers.
Participants will also be able to visit an exhibition of teahouse paintings by Iranian artist Manouchehr Vafaee as well as collage works by Esfandiar Imanzadeh featuring great ancient Persian figures such as Zoroaster, Darius and Cyrus the Great.
The event will also include Shahnameh story telling and Iranian music concerts. Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) is a classic among epic Persian poetry and recounts mythical and historical past of Iran. It was written in Persian at a time when Arabic was the main scientific and literary language of Iran.
The romance of Zal and Roudabeh, the Seven Labors of Rostam and Rostam & Sohrab are among the most popular Shahnameh stories.
