Theater groups from Iran and 16 groups from other countries are staging their
plays during the annual Fajr International Theatre festival, held at Tehran's
City Theater Complex and other theaters in the Iranian capital. The festival
runs from January 21st to 30th.
The photos presented here are from the play "Rostam's Seven
Steps" directed by Pari Saberi.

Pari Saberi: Shahnameh Indicates Our
National Identity
Pari Saberi believes that Shahnameh is national
identity of a land. The experienced director who staged "Rostam's Seven Steps"
in the Vahdat hall on Jan 25 and 26, said to
Iran Theatre: "I have written Rostam's Seven Steps according to
the Rostam's Seven Steps of Shahnameh, and in fact I will stage my own
adaptation of the ancient story."

Pari Saberi
Next year she is planning to publicly present the
production. "In the case of such productions I have always emphasized that these
are my own adaptation and if someone else had dramatized this story, for sure he
would have staged it differently," she said.
Mentioning that Abraham Esbati has composed the
play's music, she said: "I treat music as an actor; the music is always composed
as the scene's conditions and demands, because I believe that music and stage
production run parallel and it should never be composed before or after the
preparation process."

Saberi added: "I do hope that the
production commemorates our national treasure which we have inherited from our
ancestors. Paying attention to what we were is vitally important and I would
like to discover our own root and revive it."
