TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran's ambassador to Iraq Hassan Kazemi Qomi said official process is underway for the delivery of the abducted Iranian diplomats to Iraqi government.
Qomi pointed out to Iraq-US agreement according to which Washington accepted to hand over all prisoners whether Iraqi or not and said he had a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki where Qomi called for al-Maliki to put delivery of the Iranian diplomats on top of the agenda.
In an interview with Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) Qomi said Iran has urged Iraq to pursue the issue continuously to receive the diplomats as soon as possible.
Also in a meeting between al-Maliki and a US official, the US has voiced readiness to hand over the diplomats to Iraq and said the efforts are underway.
In January 2007 the US forces in Iraq raided Iran's consulate in the northern city of Arbil and detained five staff members. The diplomats have been held in the US custody since then.
