IAAB Announces Successful Conclusion of Camp Ayandeh 2009

By Taraneh Aminian, IAAB

Iranian Alliances Across Borders is pleased to announce the successful close of the fourth installment of Camp Ayandeh, held June 28-July 5, 2009 in Western Massachusetts.

This year, Camp Ayandeh hosted nearly 70 campers, over half of which were new to IAAB's leadership camp for Iranian-American high school students. Campers spent the week participating in a multitude of activities that encouraged them to explore their Iranian-American culture and identity, examine what it means to be our community's future leaders, and form friendships with other Iranian-American students their age. Each day of the week featured a different theme around which activities were built. Daily themes included Building Trust, Understanding Self, Understanding Others, Teambuilding, and Aspects of a Leader.

Throughout the week, campers took part in a number of exciting activities, including three nights of Iranian celebrations including Shabeh Yalda, Chahar-shanbe Soori and Noruz; the annual Ta'arof Tournament; and the much anticipated Talent Show at the end of the week. With numerous games of vasati and nights of music around the campfire, Camp Ayandeh 2009 was an unforgettable week for campers, counselors, and staff members alike.
