Press TV - Iran wrestlers have conquered the top spot in the 2009 Asian Junior Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in the Philippines, bagging three gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
In the 120-kg category, Bashir Babajanzadeh beat his worthy opponent from Kyrgyzstan in the finals to grab the gold medal.
The other two gold medalists were Mohammad Hatami and Babak Qorbani, who defeated their opponents in the 55-kg and 96-kg categories respectively.
Milad Khosravi became the second-best and took the silver medal in the 66-kg weight, while in the 50-kg, 74-kg, and 84-kg categories, Mohammad Kordi, Sa'ied Abdvali, and Ehsan Akhlaqi, respectively won bronze medals.
The young wrestlers from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan won silver and bronze overall.
The Iranian victory is particularly significant since Iran has traditionally been stronger in freestyle, rather than Greco-Roman style of wrestling. Hence, the triumph of the young wrestlers may be an indication of a more promising future in such events.
