- Thousands participated in the Global Day Of Action rally in San Francisco on
July 25th. The demonstrators, mostly Iranian-Americans from Bay Area,
converged at Civic Center Plaza on Saturday from 12-4 pm to show solidarity with
the people in Iran who are protesting the outcome of the June 12 presidential
election there and demanding an annulment.

The San Francisco rally was
part of a global effort which was initiated by Firuzeh Mahmoudi, an
Iranian-American from Berkeley and mother of two, and expanded to around 140
cities and towns across the globe.
Firuzeh who is
an
environmental consultant at the United Nations,
took time off from
work and moved into action after she viewed the violent crackdown by government
forces in response to the peaceful protests by the people in Iran.
There were
many speakers at the event including State Attorney General Jerry Brown, San
Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, Brisbane Mayor Sepi Richardson, former
Iranian MP Fatemeh Haghighatjoo, and many others.
