TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran-Russia joint maneuver for
maritime search and rescue as well as dealing with Caspian Sea oil contamination
was launched Tuesday in Iran's northern Anzali Port (Bandar Anzali).

known as Bandar-e Pahlavi before the Iranian Revolution, is a harbor
town on the Caspian Sea, in the northern Iranian province of
Gilan, close
to Rasht. Bandar-e Anzali has a population of approximately 150,000.

The Director General of Iran's Ports and Navigation Organization said serious
measures for rescue and search in Caspian Sea as well as coping with
contamination are underway in the waterway.
He also said these maneuvers aim at quick and influential control of maritime
accidents through making coordination among neighbors, promoting cooperation to
tackle with maritime events and decrease possible damages.

Also evaluating personnel's readiness and management of the events,
strengthening safety of navigation as well as protecting maritime environment
are among other goals of the maneuver, he added.
Also the Director General of Ports in Iran's Gilan northern province Montaser
Kohsari expressed hope Caspian Sea could turn into a clean waterway through
holding such maneuvers and interacting with littoral states.
