TEHRAN, June 9 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iran has to defeat the UAE on Wednesday at Tehran's Azadi Stadium to revive the withering hopes for 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The Persians will take on United Arab Emirates who have already failed to qualify for the next stage but are playing for the pride.
Iran have not yet beaten by the UAE in the official games, winning nine and drawing three of their clashes. They have also hammered 18 goals past UAE and conceded only one.
Despite the aforementioned facts Iran did end the first leg with United Arab Emirates in a 1-1 draw in Dubai, and the UAE will try its best to clinch another draw at Azadi Stadium that could actually put Iran out of World Cup chase. The Iranians on the other hand are expected to fight for a clean clear-cut victory against the visitors.
"There is no doubt in my mind, we will make it to the World Cup, either directly or in playoffs," Ghotbi said. "The North Korea result was very good, I am sure that we can beat the UAE and South Korea."
Iran is fourth in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa qualifiers in Group Two with seven points. South Korea tops the pool with 14 points from six games, followed by its northern neighbor with 11 points from six games, with Saudi Arabia in third, also with 10 points from six games. The UAE have just one point.
