We are shocked, as all the
Iranians who are living abroad are, by the recent events in our homeland. The
election of the tenth presidency was a true test of the maturity of democracy
and people's participation in the affairs of our country. Unfortunately, the
peaceful demonstrations of our people very soon turned violent and innocent
people were beaten and murdered savagely without any justifications. We are
dismayed by the images that are transmitted from all over the country. They
illustrate how the demands of our people who are expecting much higher level of
political freedom and accountability are met by the establishment
catastrophically.
In this equation of political
upheaval, the constants, variables, and coefficients are quickly shifting and
are becoming unpredictable. We as Iranian Engineers and Architects are certain
that use of force radicalizes the entire equation and will make the process of
reconciliation very difficult, and if it continues, solving the equation under
these conditions will be impossible. Respecting people's will is the best
guarantee to advance the society and to build a prosperous future for the
upcoming generations.
