TEHRAN, March 8 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iran narrowly lost to Azerbaijan in the final game of the 37th World Free-Style Wrestling Championship on Sunday. In front of 12,000 spectators at the Azadi Gymnasium, Iran was beaten 4-3 by Azerbaijan and came second in the tournament.
Russia beat Kazakhstan 7-0 and came third.
Some eight free-style wrestling teams from Iran, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Cuba and Georgia participated in the international tournament.
The members of the Iranian team were Abbas Dabbaghi (55 kg), Masoud Esmaeilpour (60 kg), Mehdi Taghavi (66 kg), Sadegh Gudarzi (74 kg), Reza Yazdani (84 kg), Saeid Ebrahimi (96 kg), and Fardin Masoumi (120 kg).
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended the final match along with Physical Education Organization President Mohammad Aliabadi and Iran's Wrestling Federation President Mohammad Reza Yazdani-Khorram.
