Iranian Researchers collaborate with colleagues at University of Texas on Nanotechnology

ININ - Iranian Researchers in Collaboration with the University of Texas to Analyze Density Functional Theory (DFT) of Graphene Sheets

Physicists at the Institute for Studies in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics (IPM) in collaboration with the researchers of University of Texas are analyzing the thermodynamic and mechanical state of graphene , which can substitute silicone owing to its suitable electric properties and high speed reaction rate; a tendency towards the modern nanoelectrics.

Graphene, having high heat conductivity and electron reaction rates, can be used in gas sensors and as a great insulator is highly resistant to strong acids. Observing electron-hole puddles in nearly neutral graphene sheets, the researchers assert that in low energy rates using the potential of exchange-correlation of electron gas will not be proper for graphene and may lead to great mistakes in the results.

The research was published in Physical Review B, vol. 78, pages 115426-115438, 2008.
