Call to Action: After Norooz, Make Earth Day a Day of Service

PARSA Community Foundation

Each spring, Iranian-Americans celebrate the renewal of life and the start of a new year during Norooz. On behalf of PARSA Community Foundation, we wish you a happy Persian new year. This year, PARSA CF invites you to join in collective action to restore our environment. Make Earth Day a "day of service" by giving back to your local community. PARSA CF invites you to service projects in Northern and Southern California. If you live elsewhere, please find another event near you through the resources provided below.

Northern California Location: Golden Gate National Park, San Francisco

What: Habitat Restoration
Date:  Saturday, April 18, 2009
Time:  1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Site / Location:  Crissy Field Center, 603 Mason Street (at Halleck Avenue), San Francisco, CA 94129

Who: This is a great opportunity for you, your family, and your friends to get involved. Space is limited so please RSVP so that PARSA CF may have an accurate count of volunteers and can update you on additional event logistics. Organized with Young Persian Professionals.

Project Description: Habitat restoration efforts will include invasive plant removal, composting, seed collecting and perhaps some planting.

Southern California Location: Santa Monica Pier, Los Angeles

What: Beach Clean-Up
Date: Saturday, April 18, 2009
Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Site / Location: Santa Monica Pier - Tower 1550, 1600 Ocean Front Walk (parking lot), Santa Monica, CA 90401

Who: This is a great opportunity for you and your friends to get involved! This event is part of a larger beach clean-up event and will include volunteers from other ogranizations outside of PARSA CF. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old or accompanied by a parent. Space is limited so please RSVP so that PARSA CF may have an accurate count of volunteers and can update you on additional event logistics.

Project description: The Adopt-A-Beach Program, an educational project of the California Coastal Commission, gives people of all ages the opportunity to participate in the conservation of our coastal resources. In addition to cleaning the beach, data is collected during the cleanup that may be used to help identify ways to stop beach pollution.

Important! All cleanup volunteers must have a signed waiver form.

Note: If it is raining steadily at the start time, the cleanup will be cancelled. However, if the rain has stopped or it is just raining lightly, the cleanup will continue as scheduled.
