Maliki meets Larijani, seeks Iran's investment in Iraq

TEHRAN, Mar. 28 (Mehr News Agency) - Iranian Majlis speaker Ali Larijani who was on an official tour of Iraq held talks with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in Baghdad on Friday.

During the meeting Maliki insisted that his government plans to provide necessary facilities for Iranian pilgrims who visit holy sites in Iraq, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

The Iraqi prime minister also said Baghdad welcomes investment in his country by Iranian companies. He even said he wants Iranian companies to serve as an example for other international companies in rebuilding the war-stricken country.

Larijani met Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani in Najaf on Wednesday.

Larijani told reporters in Najaf that his visit to Iraq was not official. The parliamentary speaker added he visited Iraq as a pilgrim.

Larijani last visited Iraq in April 2007 when he was the chairman of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
