Nanocatalytic Decontamination of Water by Titanium Dioxide in Iran

Source: Iranian Nanotechnology Initiative (INI)

Researchers at University of Tabriz, eliminated Acid Blue 9 as an organic contaminant dye from water; adding nanoparticles of Titanium dioxide, followed by Ultarviolet irradiation.

" TiO2 with particle size of 21 nm, is used as a photocatalyst, which increases the efficiency of advanced oxidation and water decontamination process.

Environmental decontamination by nano photocatalysts, is currently pursued in industries of France and Italy" Dr. Alireza Khataee, said to the news section of Iranian Nanotechnology Initiative Council.

According to Dr. Khataee, presence of several glass and cement factories in Iran, will provide the opportunity for production of self- cleaning surfaces, utilizing nano photocatalysts.

The above research project has been conducted in collaboration with Alireza Amani Ghadim and Vahid Vatanpour. Details is published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2009, Vol. 161, pp. 1225-1233.
