Photos: People in Qazvin Celebrate Panjahbedar

The 50th day of the new year has a special meaning for the people of Qazvin. This day is called Panjahbedar, and is celebrated as part of an old tradition. The people start the day by visiting the town's main mosque and praying for rain and greenness. They then head to the nature and spend the day outdoors.

 

Qazvin (also spelled as Ghazvin) is the largest city and capital of the Province of Qazvin in Iran with an estimated population of 331,409 in 2005. Qazvin is located some 165 km northwest of the capital, Tehran. It is at an altitude of about 1800 meters above sea level, and is a city with a cold but dry climate being south of the rugged Alborz range.
