TEHRAN, May 11 (Mehr News Agency) -- Various programs
including congresses, seminars and meetings are organized across the country to
commemorate the name of the great epic poet Ferdowsi. The cities of Mashhad,
Semnan in northern Iran and capital Tehran are preparing for programs as the
national day of Ferdowsi approaches on May 15.
The University of Semnan hosted a ceremony on the occasion of the Shahnameh millennium on Monday cosponsored by the Ferdowsi Foundation. The seminar centered on the influence of music on Persian culture and literature. The viewpoints of Persian scholars and philosophers on music were discussed at the session.
The Secretary-General of the foundation Yaser Movahhedifar attending the ceremony discussed different issues with the members of the university's art and cultural centers. Reciting of Shahnameh by the university students was also among the programs of the ceremony.
The 22nd Tehran International Book Fair will be hosting a meeting on Shahnameh on Friday with the participation of Shahnameh experts Mir Jalaleddin Kazzazi, Hassan Anusheh, Amir Sadeqi, and Mohammad-Hossein Tusivand.
The Iranian Academy of Arts will also be holding commemoration ceremonies on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Tehran's Niavaran Cultural Center in collaboration with the National Commission for UNESCO, the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the Research Center of The Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO) will also be holding sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.
Film screening, delivering speechs, reciting Shahnameh and displaying books on Shahnameh are among the programs.
Experts Qotbeddin Sadeqi, Naser Takmil-Homayun, Heshmatollah Riazi, Farshid Faraji, Babak Salamati from among the Zoroastrian nation, and Varant Gorjian from the Christians will review the characteristics and importance of Shahnameh during the two-day sessions.
A corrected version of Shahnameh based on the Florence copy written in 1217 by author Azizollah Joneydi and published by the University of Tehran will also hit the bookstores. The Florence copy is the first handwritten edition of Shahnameh without any pictures.
Meanwhile, the new version of Shahnameh compiled by Fereydoon Joneydi was unveiled during a ceremony at the book fair on Monday.
