IRAN: Airport fiasco in Shiraz costs official his job

Press TV - The Director General of Shiraz airport has been dismissed from his post for holding a plane en route from Shiraz to Tehran during take-off.

Iran Air Flight 234 was stopped during take-off on Friday morning, so that the Iranian vice president for scientific and technology affairs, Sadeq Vaez-Zadeh, could board the plane.

The plane was scheduled for take-off at 10:45 am local time but finally took off at 11:17.

The incident deeply shocked some 15 European tourists aboard the aircraft.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded by issuing the boot order for Shiraz airport official Majid Hejazi.

Shiraz, located in the southwest of Iran, is the sixth most populous city in the country and the capital of Fars Province.
