The announcement was made in a statement issued by the headquarters on Wednesday.
The candidates whose competencies have been verified by the elections headquarters are, in Persian alphabetic order, as follows:
1- Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Incumbent President)
2- Mohsen Rezaie (Secretary of the Expediency Council)
3- Mehdi Karroubi (Former Majlis Speaker)
4- Mir-Hossein Moussavi (Former Prime Minister)
According to the law, the election campaign of the candidates begins as of now until June 11, that is 24 hours before the elections start.
Qualified candidates legally allowed to start presidential campaign
Iran's Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli said the candidates whose qualifications have been ratified by the Guardian Council (GC) were legally permitted to start their presidential campaign.
He said the eligible candidates were allowed to
carry on with their campaign until one day before the elections which is slated
for June 12.
He also said those Iranians who were born on June 13, 1991 and before were eligible to vote in the elections.
Answering a question about some tense moments observed during the public speech ceremonies of certain presidential candidates, he said the events were supposed to be administered by the members of the candidates' campaign headquarters and his ministry had no responsibility towards them.
He further referred to the continuation of the mottos advocated by the Islamic revolution in past years as well as the guidelines set by martyrs as the main message of the 10th presidential elections.
Stressing that the upcoming elections will further consolidate solidarity among different walks of the Iranian society, Mahsouli said his ministry would spare no efforts to have a smooth election procedure in the country.
