The first wide steel sheet factory in the Middle East was inaugurated in Iran's southwestern city of Ahvaz, capital of Khuzestan province, on Saturday.
After inaugurating the plant, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran will turn to a major steel exporter in the world.
The factory which enjoys developed and complicated technology will become operational by Iranian experts in a short period of time, the President noted.
Praising great endeavor made by Iranian experts in the past few years in the area of steel production, he said that this has brought about a revolution in the sector.
President Ahmadinejad underlined the need for putting into operation of all development projects rapidly.
Some dlrs 370 million has been spent on construction of the Ahvaz steel factory.
Once operational, the factory will produce 1.5 million tons of wide steel sheet per year.
President Ahmadinejad arrived in Khuzestan province this morning to attend special ceremony marking the liberation anniversary of Khorramshahr from Iraqi occupation in 1982.
The Khordad 3 (May 24) is the anniversary of Khorramshahr's recapture from Iraqi forces by the devoted Iranian forces. Iraq captured the port city on October 26, 1980, in a surprise attack in the early days of the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war. The city was liberated 18 months later.
After inauguration of the factory, President Ahmadinejad returned to Tehran.
