Request for formal press release from Rep. Harman regading her Iran statement

Honorable Jane Harman

2400 Rayburn House Office Building

Washington, DC 20515

Phone: (202) 225 8220

Fax:     (202) 226 7290

Dear Congresswoman Jane Harman,

As the Chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Intelligence & Terrorism Risk Assessment, your recent foreign policy advice to the U.S. Administration and Congress expressed at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference earlier this month caused a great concern within the Iranian- American community:

"The Persian population in Iran is not a majority, it is a plurality. There are many different, diverse, and disagreeing populations inside Iran and an obvious strategy, which I believe is a good strategy, is to separate those populations."

According to the announcement made by National Iranian American Council (NIAC) on May 21, 2009, you stated that your comments on Iran were taken out of context and further clarified your position.

While I appreciate the clarification you have made to National Iranian American Council (NIAC) regarding this matter, I respectfully request that you issue a formal Press Release to the wider national and international media to be made available to the public at large, regarding your position on Iran to set the record straight.

As an Iranian-American, and a longtime resident of the State of California, I am truly encouraged by the leadership of President Obama to pursue a new path of diplomacy between Iran and The United States of America.

While admittedly, there is a long road ahead of us politically, as the Chinese proverb wisely states:

"The Journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step."

Sincerely,

Fredun Hojabri

Professor and former Academic Vice-President of Sharif (Aryamehr) University of Technology

San Diego, California, USA
