Tehran, May 26, IRNA -- Tobacco-Free World Award
was presented to the head of Iran's Tobacco Control Headquarters, Mostafa
Ghaffari by director general of World Health Organization (WHO).
Confirming the news, Ghaffari told IRNA that the headquarters had pursued good
activities to fight and control the use of tobacco.
According to him, the prize is awarded each year to activists involved in
controlling the use of tobacco.
Stating that Ayatollah Mirzai-e Shirazi International Award will be presented to
the best activist in the field on May 31, he added that each year a local and a
foreign activist will receive the award.
This year, the award will be presented to only one local activist, he noted.
International Mirzai-e Shirazi Award was approved by the World Convention for
Controlling Tobacco.
May 31 has been designated as Tobacco-Free Day.
