At the drawing ceremony held at the Hotel Relais Monaco in Ponzano Veneto, Italy, on Thursday, the defending champion Iran was drawn into a difficult Pool along with the U.S., Serbia and Japan, while six-time world champion Brazil was placed in Pool D with Russia, Poland and India. All Pool B and Pool D matches will take place in the resort city of Jesolo, Italy.
 
The August 28 to September 6 tournament kicks off with a 24-match first round, with the first and second-placed finishers in each pool moving on to Pools E and F in the second round.
