MASHHAD, Nov. 7 (Mehr News Agency) - Iran finished first on Saturday in the 3rd edition of the Junior World Sitting Volleyball Championships for the third time consecutively.
In the match held in Mashhad's Shahid Beheshti Gym, Iran beat Russia 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14) and claimed the title.
Germany defeated Kazakhstan 3-1 and came third in the event.
Iran had also defeated Kazakhstan, Croatia, Brazil and Germany in the four-day tournament.
"We analyzed the Russian team from the opening of the competitions. We knew that Iran and Russia will face each other in the final match. Our players did well in the tournament, especially against Russia their powerhouse opponent," Iran's coach Hassan Mohammadi said in the post-match news conference.
A total of eight teams namely, Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Russia, Germany and Croatia took part in the event.
Iran's junior sitting volleyball finished first in the two previous editions in Slovenia 2005 and Brazil 2007.
