Iran finishes 5th in Asian Indoor Games

HANOI, Nov. 8 (Mehr News Agency) - Iran ranked fifth in the third edition of the Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam. Iran won 17 gold medals, 17 silvers and 13 bronzes.

China finished first bagging 47 gold, 23 silver, and 18 bronzes medals, with Vietnam a close second with 42 gold, 30 silver and 21 bronze medals.

Third place went to Kazakhstan which earned 21 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze medals.

Thailand finished in fourth place with 19 golds, 17 silvers and 34 bronzes.

The 2009 Asian Indoor Games was held in Vietnam from October 30 to November 7. It was the third and last annual Asian Indoor Games (AIG) event before merging with the Asian Martial Arts Games.

Iran participated in the event with 131 athletes in 16 events. A total of 4,500 athletes from more than 40 countries took part in the event.
