TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (Mehr News Agency) - Swine flu has claimed the lives of 58 people in Iran so
far, said Dr. Mohamad-Mehdi Guya, the Health Ministry director for the
Infectious Diseases, on Wednesday.
At least 25 new deaths were reported over the past weeks, Guya told reporters.
He also said that 509 new cases of the disease were reported during the last
week and overall 2,662 people have been found infected with the virus in the
country so far.
However, the flu cases are going down in the northern part of Iran as the health
and education ministries have been cooperatively working in this regard and some
schools were shut down for some days. He said this really helped reduce the
number of people who might have caught the disease.
Sixty-one schools across Zanjan Province and sixty-eight in Kohkiloyeh and
Buyerahmad Province have been closed due to the outbreak of seasonal flu among
school students.
