Persian American Cancer Institute (PACI) playing crucial role in fighting cancer
and saving lives
The
Persian American Cancer Institute (PACI) is a non-profit organization founded in
2005 in Southern California by cancer survivor Hoori Sadler to increase the
awareness and participation of Iranian Americans in the prevention, detection
and treatment of cancer. With the support and endorsements of some of the best
known cancer institutes, community leaders, activists and survivors, PACI has
played a crucial role in the battle against cancer.
According
to the American Cancer Society, this year 562,340 Americans died of cancer and a
total of 1,479,350 new cases of the disease were reported. Accordingly, cancer
is the second most common cause of death in the U.S.

As part
of its efforts in the battle against cancer and in order to increase the chance
of finding a match for those in need with Persian ethnic backgrounds, PACI has
for the past few months hosted various bone marrow drives and registered over
800 individuals with the National Bone Marrow Registry. Just last month, Mrs.
Sadler was invited to attend a breakfast with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi,
where she discussed the issues regarding bone marrow registration for minorities
in the U.S. Speaker Pelosi expressed much interest in the efforts of PACI and in
working to get minorities adequately represented in the National Bone Marrow
Industry.
PAAIA commends PACI for its efforts, and urges all Iranian Americans to consider
GIVING THE GIFT OF LIFE by registering as a donor with the Bone Marrow National
Registry.
