Press TV - Japan ended Iran's unbeaten campaign to claim the 2009 Asian Volleyball Senior Men's Championship in the Philippines.
After a brilliant 3-2 victory over South Korea in the semi-finals, the Iranian squad shocked the six-time Asian champions with a 25-19 win in the first set. But Japan came back to overpower Iran in three consecutive sets in a 3-1 win (19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22) which sealed Japan's seventh Asian championship title.
This was Iran's second medal in the Asian championship which comes after they stood in the third place in the 2003 championship in China.
By reaching the final match, Iran qualified for the Grand Champion Cup which will be held later in 2009. Japan have already qualified as they host the tournament.
Earlier on Monday, South Korea defeated China in four sets (25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22) to claim the bronze medal.
