Iran Envoy Denies Iraqi Official's Remarks Over Its Stances On Joint Rivers

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Kazemi Qomi denied remarks by an Iraqi official about Tehran behavior towards the neighboring country describing them "unfair."

Iran, according to its humane, moral and Islamic responsibilities as a neighboring country, has always had a leading role in aiding Iraq oppressed nation and will continue the same path, he said.

Also regarding the rivers between the two countries, Qomi said according to a deal between the two sides a joint technical committee is in charge of defining the legal regime.

Iran has announced readiness to host Iraqi delegation for discussions on the rivers and the legal regime, he added.

Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi recently complained about water shortage in his country attributing a part of it to Iran stances over joint waters of the two countries. He also claimed despite remarks by Iranian officials, Iran's behavior toward the neighboring country is irresponsible and unfair.
