Iranian American Runs for the Board of
Education
October 21, 2009, Ridgefield, CT – Born in
Iran, raised in Germany, and a resident of Ridgefield Connecticut since 1995,
Nina Mohadjer is a candidate for the Board of Education. The election, which
will be held in November, marks the first time an Iranian American is running
for public office in the State of Connecticut.
Mohadjer's enthusiasm to serve on the Board of Education of Ridgefield is fueled
by her own personal and educational background. A practicing attorney, Mohadjer
received her law degree from Johannes-Gutenberg University in Germany, a Masters
of Law degree in Comparative Studies from Pace University, and an MBA from
Western Connecticut State University. Fluent in 5 languages, Mohadjer stresses
the importance of foreign language in education curriculum. "We can do better
with our program in terms of curriculum and enhance teaching methods," explained
Mohadjer. "We need to prepare our children for their long-term success, and
fluency in a foreign language is key."
Mohadjer believes that her legal and business background will also serve her
well on Ridgefield's Board of Education. As a member of the board, she promises
to work in a non-partisan manner to ensure better fiscal management, strengthen
negotiations between the Board of Education and the unions, and investigate
outside sources of funding to support innovative ideas and programs. In 2009,
Mohadjer was instrumental in getting the Board of Education's budget passed and
even designed the website in support of the budget. Mohadjer is a firm believer
that education is the driving force in any community.
"A great education system will keep our community special and be an asset to
everyone, not only parents," Mohadjer stated.
The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee officially nominated Mohadjer as one of
three Democratic candidates to run for the Board of Education. She is an active
member of the Democratic party in Ridgefield and has volunteered on several
campaigns.
