CALABAR, Nigeria, Oct. 25 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iran beat Gambia in its opening game of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup on Sunday. Iran, which has been drawn in Group C, defeated Gambia 2-0. Payam Sadeghian scored in the 44th minute.Kaveh Rezaei doubled the scoreboard in the 84th minute.
Colombia and the Netherlands are in this group as well.
The team, coached by Ali Doosti-Mehr, is scheduled to play Colombia on Wednesday.
A total of 24 teams have been divided into six groups each consisting of four teams.
The two top places in each group plus the four best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout phase.
The 13th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup kicked off on Saturday and will be finished on November 15. Matches will be played in nine cities across Nigeria.
