Iran's Rajabi wins gold in Asian Indoor Games

HANOI, Vietnam, Dec. 31 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranian woman athlete Leila Rajabi won the gold medal in the shot put event of the third Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam on Saturday.

Rajabi claimed the championship with a 17.07 meter throw. Athletes from Thailand and China finished second and third respectively.

"I am so happy to win the gold medal. I hope to win the gold in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games," Rajabi said.

This is the last Asian Indoor Games in its current form. In the future it will be combined with the Asian Martial Arts Games.

Iran has participated in the event with 131 athletes in 16 events. A total of 4,500 athletes from more than 40 countries have taken part in the event which started on October 30 and continues to November 8.
